Digital Portrait study.

Kept it simple with two layers (drawing & paint) & some modified brushes to emulate dry brushing.

Hey folks, so I've been trying to widen my "toolbox" recently and taking a few tentative steps towards digital sketching & painting. I'm not really a techy person & have always found programs like Photoshop pretty cumbersome to paint and draw with. I've been toying around with Artrage & it's surprisingly simple to sketch & build up paint fast without dipping into layer and shader  shenanigans too much.

Very, very quick test doodle with the base brush presets. Not quite the way my acrylic paintings look, but I kind of like the vibrancy from digital. I'm going to create some custom brush mods to add more water to the brush ( I tend to paint with acrylic similar to watercolour in real life) see how that goes...

Hey folks,

I've been working on some new paintings the last few months and one of them began life after watching Run Lola Run on tv.  I loved the idea of constant motion to push the narrative and so, partially at least I'm trying to work out something similar with this. It's still in early development and I'll post updates as it evolves.

Hello folks. Long time no blog!

Been trying out digital drawing lately using N-trig & Artrage. This is all a wee bit new for me ( I am seriously a bit of a luddite) & it's going quite slowly. Was a bit weary about using a touchscreen to draw after using a mouse for so long but am pleasantly surprised. It feels pretty natural & not too bad with pen pressure etc..

The wee drawing above started as a very quick freehand pencil doodle, scanned & used as the base for an artrage drawing. It's a wee bit looser than I usually draw, but think I will give it a shot & try some more drawy, painty stuffs.
